This particular key profile was used with the 100 Series Toyota Landcruiser models between the years 1998 and 2000. There are 2 other Toyota key profiles that look very similar to this and so if you are not sure just pop in and see us and we will work out the correct one for your vehicle.
It was also used on a number of other Japanese models including the Toyota Celsior and Toyota Century. If you have a Japanese import of one of these models then we can help you with spare keys.
This key profile was also used with a number of Lexus models and you will find a listing for it under the Lexus brand here on this website also. The matching Orion key profile for this key is actually LXP 90, while the Silca key reference is TOY 40
This type of key profile is know as a track key or wave cut or laser cut and is not available at every key cutting business. It uses a tracer system to copy your key and so your key needs to be in proper working order and work smoothly in the ignition and door to be copied.
In the case of the models listed above, they use highly encrypted transponder chips and so the vehicle MUST be present to make a new key as we need to gather data from the vehicle and the key using our special equipment to make a copy of the chip.
Please allow a minimum of 10 minutes and up to 45 minutes for certain keys to be copied.
Please call us on (08) 6110 2693 to book an appointment. Please specify make, model and year when making your booking.
The main security element in modern car keys is the transponder chip. These have been used in most makes of cars from the mid 90's. It is this item that allows the car ignition to start the engine. These transponders can come in a few different types and there is more information on this subject in our FAQ section.
In most remote keys the remote and transponder are separate items with the remote simply opening the doors and the transponder being the security. As a cheap alternative to having 2 remote keys, if you simply want a spare key, a transponder key like this one can save you a lot of dollars.
A few things to consider would be:
A transponder key such as this is essentially waterproof as it does not contain a battery and so if you like surfing, boating, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, fishing or any other water based activities where you have to lock your vehicle and leave it unattended for a while this kind of key will allow you to lock the car and bring the key with you without fear of any water damage as would be the case with a remote key or flip key.
Does the car actually have a lock in the door that can be operated with a key? This may sound crazy but some newer car models such as the Nissan Navara do not have a key barrel in the drivers door. There is however a hidden key barrel on the passenger door which is covered by a chrome cover as part of the door handle.
Having a spare transponder key can save you thousands of dollars should you lose your main every day key. Losing your only key with some brands of cars can be a massive headache, involving towing your vehicle to a dealer, having to have the immobilizer box replaced, having all the lock barrels replaced and having the ignition barrel replaced. You may be without your vehicle for up to a week. Of course this is a worst case scenario and with some makes and models a new key can be cut and coded to your vehicle even is all the keys are lost but even then this is still a much more expensive and stressful procedure than simply having a spare key made.
