This key profile was used with the VW LT28, LT31, LT35, LT40, LT45, LT50 & LT55 which used a transponder key during the years 2000 to 2006. Of course the LT series was around since 1975 and so older models used the non transponder key version which we can also cut and as there is no transponder chip to clone, these older keys only cost $20 each.
The LT stands for Light Truck but the LT series featured trucks, can, camper van and off road adventure vehicles in the range.
This key profile is a JMA ME-HM.P1 and has the same key blade as a Silca YM15 or the Orion code YS17. There are a couple of Silca blanks that match this key and these include YM15P (NON-TRANSPONDER) and YM15T5 (TRANSPONDER).
In the case of the models listed above, they use highly encrypted transponder chips and so the vehicle MUST be present to make a new key as we need to gather data from the vehicle and the key using our special equipment to make a copy of the chip.
Please allow a minimum of 10 minutes and up to 45 minutes for certain keys to be copied.

The main security element in modern car, van or motorcycle keys is the transponder chip. These have been used in most makes from the mid 90's. It is this item that allows the ignition to start the engine. These transponders can come in a few different types and there is more information on this subject in our FAQ section.
In most modern remote keys or flip keys there are 2 main elements, the remote control which often just opens the doors and the transponder chip which holds encrypted security information that allows the vehicle to start with the key is placed in the ignition where this information can be read by the vehicle's computer.
Having even a manual key as a spare can save a lot of stress and expense later and is much cheaper then having a spare remote key or flip key.
