Audi A2 A3 A4 A6 A8 & TT - 3 button flip key shell - no electronics

This style of Audi flip-key using the HU66 or HAA key blade and splitting into 2 parts similar to the VW key shells is fairly common in older Audi models. 

Things to note are the shape of the button pad on the front of the shell as they are rounded top and bottom and feature symbols for Lock, Boot & Unlock. The battery holder is fitted in the inside of the back cover. 

You don't have to replace your entire flip-key just because the shell is damaged or the key blade has broken away from the plastic body.

Here we offer you a top quality replacement flip-key shell for your old broken flip-key. Having a key covered in tape to hold it together or with holes in the buttons is never a good look and can be a real frustration.

The kit includes the front and back sections of the remote shell section and the flip-key mechanism end. The key blade will need to to be cut to match your old one.

Even though this is an aftermarket key shell, there is a recess in the back cover to place a logo sticker. Under the logo sticker you will see there is a screw which holds the front and back sections of the key part together. An aftermarket logo sticker is included in the kit or you can use your old logo sticker if you would prefer. 

You may need to replace the double sided tape on your old logo sticker before refitting it to the new shell.

Swapping over your remote into the new shell is pretty easy to do yourself or come into our shop and we will swap them over for you, cut the key blade and test the battery for you.

Please note we do charge a fee of $50 for this service and this is only offered at our shop in East Victoria Park, WA 6101.

If you do not live close by you can swap over the remote yourself and have the key blade cut at your local locksmith or key cutting kiosk. This type of key cutting is usually referred to as laser cut or wave cut. 

To swap over the components, first you will need to separate the remote part and flip key part. This can be done by placing a flat blade screw driver in the slot located in side where the key blade is folded into. Twist the screw driver and the remote section should slide out of the flip key end. Once you have checked the circuit board over to ensure it is clean and undamaged place it in the new remote part shell and place this to one side.

If the circuit board has dirt on it and you wish to clean it, use PCB cleaner but make sure no battery is connected to the board. This is very important as if you spray PCB cleaner on the board and there is still a power source i.e. a battery connected you can seriously damage the circuit. Use a lint free cloth to very gently clean the circuit board.

Once cleaned allow at least 20 minutes for PCB cleaner to evaporate before replacing the battery. Once the cleaner has fully evaporated you can replace the battery in its holder and place the remote in the new key shell. 

Opening the flip key section can be done using a thin flat blade screw driver to lift the logo sticker away. Now you can undo the Philips head screw under the sticker. This will allow you to open the 2 halves of the key shell and remove transponder chip. The transponder chip in this type of key is usually a small glass ID48 type chip and will be located near the key blade end. Carefully remove it and put it in the slot in the new flip key part.

While the battery is out of the battery holder, you can test to see it has 3 volts using a multi-meter if you have one.

Once all the steps above are completed you can secure the 2 halves together. Your new key is now ready to be duplicated at your local locksmith shop or key cutting kiosk.

It is always wise to use a reputable key cutting shop to ensure your key is cut accurately as even the smallest variance in the dimensions can prevent the key from working correctly. We calibrate our key machine regularly to ensure it is working to the most accurate level possible.
