This type of transponder is generally known as a "programmable" chip in that it needs to be programmed to the vehicle using diagnostic type scan tools or key programmers.
It is not generally user programmable.
It can generally only be coded to the vehicle using special equipment by a licensed locksmith or motor vehicle repairer. We can do this for you in store. Additional fees apply to have this service.
This type of chip was generally seen as a glass transponder but now it can also be ,ade as a wedge transponder as shown in the photos. These chips are very small and can easily be lost when a car key is opened up to change the remote battery.
Without this chip in the key head of the key, the car will not start as this chip contains security information that the car looks for every time the ignition it turned to start the car.
There are many versions of these chips and all have different types of information in them. The vast majority of wedge chips will have a code printed on them to help identify them and most codes start with the letters PCF but not always as they can be made by different manufacturers. The only way to accurately identify the chip is using a cloning tool that can read the data o the chip.
The details on the wedge chip in the photo should not be used to identify the chip as this particular wedge chip can be generated to suit many different configurations using special tool we have here in the workshop
