Most types of transponder are generally known as a "fixed programmable" chips in that they needs to be programmed to the vehicle using diagnostic type scan tools or key programmers. This particular chip is slightly different in that is is written to using data acquired from the vehicle and once written to, it can start the vehicle.

It can generally only be coded to the vehicle using special equipment by a licensed locksmith or motor vehicle repairer. We can do this for you in store. Additional fees apply to have this service.
This type of chip is know as a carbon chip and they are very small and can easily be lost when a car key is opened up to change the remote battery.
Without this chip in the key head of the key, the car will not start as this chip contains security information that the car looks for every time the ignition it turned to start the car.
There are many versions of these carbon chips and all have different types of information in them. The vast majority will have a code printed on them to help identify them and most codes start with the letters PCF but not always as they can be made by different manufacturers.
These ones her normally have the code PCF7935AA but can also sometimes have nothing printed on them, which makes it difficult to identify unless you have a device to read them.
There are other versions of the PCF7935 chips which end in other letters. This one is known as an ID44 or IDPC chip and is generally used with BMW, Mini & Landrover EWS immobiliser systems which are often referred to as being rolling code.
