It is important to understand the difference between a remote slot key and a proximity remote key, as the technology inside the key will differ and the process to program each type differs dramatically.

Programming Volvo keys is a slow process and it can take up to 3.5 hours on some vehicles to decrypt the data to retrieve the password. 

Programming of a proximity key like this one is charged at $245 in addition to the cost of the key.
